Role and Responsibilities

The Lord-Lieutenant normally serves until retirement at 75 years of age. The role of the Lord-Lieutenant, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant and the Deputy Lieutenants, is voluntary, non-political and unpaid.

The role includes:

  • representing Her Majesty The Queen in Worcestershire
  • recommending and arranging Royal Visits to the County
  • visiting organisations to support good work, achievements and to mark important anniversaries
  • offering direction and support with national honours and award nominations
  • recommending individuals, businesses and voluntary organisations for Queen's Awards
  • submitting Royal Garden Party nominations
  • celebrating and encouraging volunteering and charitable giving
  • maintaining close links with the Judiciary, Church, Armed Forces, Police and Fire & Rescue services and the civic community
  • participating in Citizenship ceremonies
